Elizabeth McNaughton is Founder and CEO of Disastrous, an education and training company that helps leaders and teams navigate disaster & disruption.

Her career, leading multi-million-dollar recovery programs for New Zealand Red Cross and her work on the Canterbury earthquakes, brings valuable insights to the masterclass. She has also worked for the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the Asia-Pacific region. Elizabeth’s expertise is recognised through various accolades, including being a Winston Churchill fellowship recipient, a Leadership New Zealand alumna, an Edmund Hillary Fellow and a co-author of “Leading in Disaster Recovery: A Companion through the Chaos.”

Guest Speaker Dr Kate Brady

Dr. Kate Brady is a disaster recovery nerd with a ‘thing’ for knowledge translation. She believes that there is great evidence from research and lived experience that could be better shared to improve outcomes for people affected by disasters and others who are experiencing disruption and upheaval.

Kate has a PhD in Public Health with a focus on disaster recovery. She is the National Recovery Adviser for Australian Red Cross Emergency Services and is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne Centre for Child and Community Wellbeing.

Guest Speaker Hon Kiri Allan

Hon Kiri Allan is a former Cabinet Minister and accomplished lawyer. She was a member of Parliament from 2017 to 2023, as a List MP and then representing the Labour Party in the East Coast electorate. She held the positions of Minister for Emergency Management, Minister of Conservation, Minister of Justice, and more.

She was involved in the response to NZ disasters including the Whakaari/White Island eruption, Christchurch mosque attack, COVID, and Cyclone Gabrielle. And brings insights from a rich history of advising and collaborating with a wide array of entities, from large corporate organisations, to central and local government, small to medium-sized businesses, iwi, Māori Authorities, and Māori Trusts and Incorporations.

She is now Director of KLA, working with clients to drive economic development and policy reform, Director of Kōmaru, working with landowners to grow the solar footprint in Aotearoa, and contributing as an Advsiory Group Member for the Natural Hazard and Resilience Platform.
